Dear partners and friends,
I pray the Lord will grant you strength and wisdom to discern His anointing, to be able to discern His truth, in this hour (1 John 2:27).
This month's we tackle the emotive subject of homosexual, sexual intercourse by studying the Lord's revelation from Scripture concerning homosexuality. Let me begin by speaking to those who may be engaging in homosexual activities. This article will reveal that our Creator regards homosexual, sexual intercourse as a morally, sinful choice. However, that doesn't mean that God hates you because you have done, or are doing, something which He considers sinful. On the contrary, God loves you and has provided, complete forgiveness and, power for you to be liberated from making homosexual choices (Galatians 5:16).
In this hour of our history some major church and government leaders are condoning the evil practice of homosexual, sexual intercourse, and calling evil good. This article will expose this deception, and reveal the Lord's truth.
Political correctness is very dangerous, as it aims to the take the high moral ground, and to position those who oppose its views as evil. This is what has largely happened with the discourse regarding homosexuality. The argument in favour of homosexuality rests heavily upon the premise that people are born as homosexuals; much like a person is born a certain race; black, brown or white. The argument tries to remove the moral element by convincing people into aligning homosexuality with ones birth, and then saying "nobody can help how they are born". The homosexual premise then argues that it logically follows that the person who objects to homosexuality is akin to a racist, and therefore is morally evil.
The Western world has largely accepted the deception of homosexual political correctness as truth. However, God's biblical revelation stands in the way and exposes the lie. As you will see in the following article, the bible clearly views homosexual, sexual intercourse as a moral decision. As humans we are to not to give in to the lusts of our flesh, or our 'birth condition', but rather we are to make considered and right moral choices under the direction of our Creator God. Homosexuality is to be treated no differently to other sexually moral choices like whether to commit adultery, incest or bestiality.

Teaching - A Biblical Perspective of Homosexuality

Homosexuality, and homosexual 'marriage', is presently a significant issue of discourse, at least in Western democratic nations, so it is timely to present a biblical perspective of homosexuality to assist our understanding, and hopefully help protect our societies from hurting themselves through legislating ungodly, morally, evil laws.
God is love; so all of the Lord's laws and written instructions are given to us in love to protect us from harm (1 John 4:8). Sometimes, from our human perspective, we struggle to understand why our Creator gives us certain instructions. But a humble person is one who submits his thoughts to God's perspective, as revealed in the bible (James 4:6).
As with any theme, to rightly divide Scripture we need to study the theme in its entirety in the Scripture, and not just pick and chose certain 'proof texts' to support a pre-determined position. In this teaching we will briefly overview the bible and present a Scriptural perspective regarding homosexuality.
God first created a male - Adam (Genesis 1:26, 2:7). From the male, God created a female - Eve (Genesis 2:18, 21-22). The female was created for the male, and was designed to be a helpmate for the male (1 Corinthians 11:9). Male and female were made in such a way that they fitted each other sexually, and when they joined together in sexual intercourse they had the ability to procreate (Genesis 4:1).
Sodom and Gomorrah
Lot, the nephew of Abraham, dwelt in Sodom. But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly (Genesis 13:13, 14:12). The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous (Genesis 18:20).
Two angels, or male messengers, of the Lord went to Sodom and met Lot there (Genesis 19:1). The two men / angels entered Lot's house and the men of the city of Sodom came to the house and strongly demanded that Lot give them over so they could have homosexual, sexual intercourse with them (Genesis 19:5-9).
The men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: and they called unto Lot, and said unto him, where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them… and Lot… said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing
Subsequently, the angels smote the men with blindness and instructed Lot to leave the city with his family, as the Lord had sent the angels to destroy the city because of the wickedness of the men there (Genesis 19:11-13). Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven (Genesis 19:24).
This historical account reveals that the men of Sodom demanded to know, or have homosexual union with, the messengers of the Lord who visited Lot. The Lord God our Creator considers homosexual, sexual intercourse a grievous sin and great wickedness. The Lord judged the cities which participated in this wickedness with destruction.
The Law of Moses
The man that commiteth adultery with another man's wife, even he that commiteth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death. And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them. If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; there shall be no wickedness among you. And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast. And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them
The above passage, from the Law of Moses, describes four sexual sins which were all punishable by death: adultery, incest, male homosexuality, and bestiality. Male homosexual, sexual intercourse is described as an abomination which means: disgusting (morally), and abhorrence (Strong's Dictionary). Synonyms for disgusting include: revolting, repulsive, sickening, ghastly, filthy, sordid, horrible, and nauseating (Microsoft Word). Synonyms for abhorrence include: hatred, loathing, detestation, repugnance and revulsion (ibid). This scripture reveals that the Lord our Creator considers male homosexual, sexual intercourse as a repulsive, repugnant, moral offence which under the Law of Moses warranted the maximum penalty of death.
The bible reveals, since the fall of Adam and Eve, that all men have sinful lusts in their flesh (Genesis 4:7, Galatians 5:17, Romans 7:14-25). So there is no dispute as to whether some men and women have homosexual lusts in their flesh. The crux of the argument is not whether or not people have homosexual desires or are 'born homosexual'. Rather, the crux of the argument is; is it morally right to act upon the sinful desires which are in our flesh, or should we learn to control our flesh?
Clearly, from God's perspective He expected the people of Israel to discipline the desires of their flesh and He held them accountable for their actions. This was regardless of whether some people had natural, or homosexual, desires. For example, if a man had a 'normal' sexual desire for a woman (who was married to someone else) he was not to act upon that 'normal' desire, because she was already married to another man and sex with her would be adultery which was forbidden. The same was for homosexual desires. Israel was not to act upon homosexual desires because the person was of the same sex, and that was forbidden.
From God's perspective it is not morally ok to act upon all the desires which we have in our flesh. We are not animals but are the descendants of God (Luke 3:38, Acts 17:28-29). God expects humans to be above the animals and to understand and obey moral laws. One of those laws is not to engage in homosexual, sexual union. God adjudicated that it was just to punish Israel if they violated His law, even if the individual had strong homosexual orientation from birth (Isaiah 45:21). Male homosexual, sexual intercourse is therefore NOT justified and morally ok, because some can't help being homosexual as they were born that way. God saw that it was just to punish anybody who violated His moral law, regardless of the desires of their flesh. We need to agree with God and His Word in the bible, and not accept the homosexual argument of absolving moral transgression due to ones birth condition. Otherwise, if we agree with the homosexual argument we will place ourselves in opposition to our Creator, and call God unjust.
The truth is that God's Word is true, God is just, and God views male homosexual, sexual intercourse as a moral decision. God held people accountable for their choices of sexual activity under the Law of Moses; notice the Scripture says: their blood shall be upon them (Leviticus 20:13). In other words, males who practice homosexual, sexual intercourse are held responsible for their sin, punishment and death. From God's perspective male homosexual, sexual intercourse was on a par with sexual intercourse with: animals, a close family member (incest) and, with someone else's spouse; as they all drew the maximum penalty which was death. It is pathetically weak to argue that if someone commits sexual intercourse with: an animal, a close family relative (other than their own spouse) or, someone else's spouse; and then appeals to the excuse "it is justified and morally OK, because I can't help it, because I was born like it", that their action should be considered as holy and pure.
It should also be noted that we are no longer under the Law of Moses, as Moses' Law was until Christ came (Galatians 3:24-15). Therefore the bible, in the New Testament era, does not definitively advocate reintroducing the same strict penalties for those sexual sins today. But just because, in our era, the severe penalty is not enforced, we should not conclude the sin has become any less grave, or God's hatred of the sin has diminished. It is just that we have more mercy, and opportunity for reform, in this age of grace. This is due to Christ, bearing the judgement for our sins and, providing, through the new creation, more hope and power for us to behave in a holy manner (1 John 2:1-2, Ephesians 4:23-24).
Good and Wicked Kings
The next two Scripture passages describe the reign of the wicked King Rehoboam; the third passage describes the good King Asa:
And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah… and Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done. For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree. And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel
1 Kings 14:21-24
And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him
2 Chronicles 12:1
And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did David his father. And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols which his fathers had made
1 Kings 15:11-12
In the book of 1st Kings, good and bad kings of Israel and Judah are listed. We see examples above, of the evil King Rehoboam, and the good King Asa, both of whom ruled over Judah. As we study the summaries of the reigns of kings a theme is noticed, especially concerning what the Lord considers as good and evil. Evil kings are characterized as those who allow the sodomites to remain in the land, and allow idol worship. Good kings are characterized as those who take away the sodomites out of the land, and remove the idols from the land. A sodomite is: a (quasi) sacred person, that is (technically) a (male) devotee (by prostitution) to licentious idolatry: sodomite, unclean (Strong's dictionary).
In 1st Kings, there appears a connection between idolatry and prostitution, especially male homosexual prostitution, which the Lord our Creator finds particularly wicked and evil. At the least we can say that God considered the Kings of Judah, under the Law of Moses, who tolerated the practice of the sodomites as being evil kings.
New Testament Teaching regarding Homosexuality
The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men… they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity, whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful
Romans 1:18, 20-31
The above New Testament passage refers to both female homosexuality and male homosexual, sexual intercourse. Interestingly the passage firstly refers to idol worship and then to homosexuality, similar to the references we listed in the Old Testament, in 1 Kings 14 and 15, concerning the sodomites.
This passage in Romans, however, leaves us in no doubt that those who engage in homosexual, sexual intercourse are considered by our creator as: ungodly, unrighteous, vain, foolish, having a darkened heart, being fools, unclean, dishonouring, having vile (evil) affections, against nature, unseemly, error, having a reprobate mind and being not convenient (Romans 1:18, 21-22, 24, 26-28). From this New Testament passage it is clear that the Lord our Creator considers homosexual, sexual intercourse as degenerate, dirty, depraved, evil and wicked.
Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire
In the New Testament letter of Jude we see a reference to going after strange flesh, which is a reference, to Sodom and, to male homosexual, sexual intercourse. The context of this reference is ungodly, sensual, 'Christian' imposters who deserve judgement (Jude 1:4, 8, 18-19). These 'Christian ministers' are imposters or frauds, who have placed popularity and the love of money above what is holy and true (Jude 1:11). They should be avoided, as should all 'ministers of the gospel' who condone homosexuality: certain men crept in unawares… turning the grace of God into lasciviousness… likewise (like Sodom) also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion (rulers, government)... these are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear… for whom is reserved the blackest of darkness forever (Jude 1:4, 8, 12-13) and are worthy of God's judgement.
Church pastoral responsibility
All true and faithful pastors of the Lord's church are obliged to teach that homosexual, sexual intercourse is sinful (1 Timothy 3:2, 15). Pastors need to also enforce church discipline, mandating that for Christians to maintain membership in the church the sin of homosexual, sexual intercourse must be ceased and repented of (1 Corinthians 5:1-7, Revelation 2:1, 4-5).
Role of Government
Finally, we should also mention the biblical, New Testament, perspective for secular government as they wrestle with the responsibility of legislating laws for the good of society.
The first thing to be aware of is that from God's perspective, in the New Testament, secular government is God's servant to punish those who do evil and to reward those who do good deeds.
The powers that be are ordained of God… rulers… do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: for he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil
Romans 13:1, 3-4
The bible reveals that homosexual, sexual intercourse is considered as evil in our Creator's eyes. Government, as God's servant, is to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil and therefore should not legislate to legitimize that which God says is evil. Concerning the current debates about homosexual marriage, and homosexual education in public schools, governments should first and foremost uphold their responsibility under God. Homosexual, sexual intercourse should NOT be taught to school children as an acceptable alternative to sex between a man and a woman, as this would be teaching children to engage in evil practices. Homosexual unions should NOT be legally recognised as marriages, as this would be legitimizing that which God says is evil.
In this brief teaching we have examined the biblical perspective regarding homosexual, sexual intercourse in: the original creation, the judgement by God of Sodom and Gomorrah, the Law of Moses, the critique of good and wicked kings of Judah and, New Testament teaching. It is consistent in Scripture that homosexual, sexual intercourse is a very grave moral sin, which should be strenuously avoided and resisted without exception.
Local church pastors are obligated to support the biblical revelation regarding the sinfulness of homosexuality, regardless of whether homosexuality is currently popular. As the church stands in solidarity with the Lord Jesus Christ and the clear revelation of His Scripture, government leaders will be strengthened and encouraged to fulfil their role in legislating good moral laws for the benefit of society.
Dear Lord, we thank you that you love the sinner but hate the sin; you love the person who has yielded to the sin of homosexuality, but you hate the sin of homosexual, sexual intercourse. Thank you that you are love, and you desire what is best for our lives and for our societies. Please open the eyes of our pastors, governmental leaders, and those who practice homosexuality to know that homosexual, sexual intercourse is abhorrent in your sight. Strengthen our leaders, to do what is right before you and, to NOT yield to evil, popular opinions like legitimizing homosexuality.
If you have engaged in homosexuality pray this prayer - dear Father God, please forgive me for yielding to the sin of homosexual, sexual intercourse. I repent and turn away from all homosexual activity. Thank you Lord, you are faithful and true, and you cleanse all my sins, through the precious blood of Jesus Christ (1 John 1:7-9). Thank you Lord, you make me righteous, clean and pure (Romans 3:25, 5:9). I receive and declare Jesus Christ as the Lord over my life, and I receive your power to walk in the Holy Spirit in purity and love. I pray this in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
