Dear partners and friends,
This month we conducted ministry among a number of churches in the southern Thailand region of Surat Thani, and also Bangkok, Thailand. In the Lang Suan church 30 came forward and prayed to trust in Jesus’ blood, and one man publicly confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord for the first time. In Stream Life Church, Surat Thani, 12 people came forward to publicly confess Jesus Christ as Lord for the first time, and 30 recent believers made dedications to Christ. As most of the 500 copies of my book, “The Sword of the Spirit” in the Thai language, which we printed earlier this year have been distributed we printed an additional 500 copies.
It is such a privilege to work together with many precious saints from Thailand, and around the world, to progress the Lord’s eternal kingdom. A big thank you to all who have joined together and contributed in various ways towards the success of this latest mission to the Thai people. The Lord bless you. With love, Andrew

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; and for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make know the mystery of the gospel
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked
Taking - (Greek: ‘analambano’): to take up: - receive up, take (in, unto up) (Strong’s Dictionary)
Shield – (Greek: ‘thureos’): a large shield (as door shaped): - shield (Strong’s Dictionary)
Faith – (Greek: ‘pistis’): persuasion, that is credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God…), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstractly constancy in such professions; by extension the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself:- assurance, belief, faith, fidelity (Strong’s Dictionary)
Ye shall be able – (Greek: ‘dunamai’): to be able or possible:- be able, can (do…), could, may, might, be possible, be of power (Strong’s Dictionary)
Quench – (Greek: ‘sbennumi’): to extinguish (literally or figuratively): - go out, quench (Strong’s Dictionary)
Fiery – (Greek: ‘puroo’): to kindle, that is, (passively) to be ignited, glow (literally), be refined (by implication), or (figuratively) to be inflamed (with anger, grief, lust):- burn, fiery, be on fire, try (Strong’s Dictionary)
Darts – (Greek: ‘belos’): a missile, that is, a spear or arrow: - dart (Strong’s Dictionary)
Wicked – (Greek: ‘poneros’): hurtful, that is evil…; figuratively calamitous; also (passively) ill, that is, diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, that is derelict, vicious, facinorous… mischief, malice… guilt… the devil, sinners:- bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked (ness) (Strong’s Dictionary)
From the dictionary definitions, we can say: in addition to the other pieces of the Lord’s armour, take up the large shield, which is as a door, (not the small shield which may be held in one hand during hand to hand combat), which the soldier can completely hide behind and be safe. This piece of the spiritual armour is our persuasion and conviction of the truth of God and His Word. In particular, our belief in the good news of the salvation which Christ has attained for us. This shield of faith is able, or possible, to quench or extinguish all the flaming missiles which the enemy throws at us. These spears of the enemy, if not extinguished, can bring manifold calamity into our lives including: anger, grief, lust, hurt, evil, illness, disease; being: derelict, vicious, atrociously wicked, mischievous, lewd, malicious, sinful, guilty and devilish.
It is clear that taking up the shield of faith will protect our lives from a multitude of hurtful disasters and misfortune, and empower us to enjoy the wonderful salvation of the Lord, both on this earth and into eternity.
There are millions of fallen angels, or devil spirits, on the earth who are actively shooting arrows, or darts, at humans (Revelation 12:4, 7-9, 5:11, Luke 10:18). These fiery darts can take the form of negative thoughts of: being lazy or derelict in our faith, condemnation, fear, accusation, failure, immorality and wickedness. Any thought that opposes the revealed will of the Lord in Scripture is potentially a fiery dart from the wicked. The darts can also include physical sickness, illness and disease. The darts can also be directed to unsuspecting people who may personally attack us by causing strife, lack of favour, and scheming to steal financially from us etc.
The shield of faith can stop the enemies’ darts in two ways. When we believe a promise of the Lord, the Lord is duty-bound to release His power to cause His promise to come to pass. The shield of faith, therefore, activates the Lord’s power which can include God’s angels limiting the attacks of the devil spirits. Faith can also work as a shield which prohibits the penetration of negative thoughts from the wicked into our mind. Faith can also operate like a force field where an attack of sickness from the enemy cannot touch us.
Because we are engaged in spiritual battles with wicked, devil spirits, if we do not develop our faith shield we are ‘sitting ducks’ and vulnerable to being speared by the fiery darts of the devil spirits.
How to develop our faith shield
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God
Faith comes from the Word of God. Without the receiving of the seeds of the Word of God into our hearts we will not be taking the shield of faith, and therefore will not be protected from the fiery darts of the wicked.
To develop our faith shield we need to plant the Scriptural promises of the Lord into our hearts.
Jesus said… So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground
The seed is the Word of God and the ground is the human heart (Mark 4:14-15). We experience the protection of the faith shield, or the power of the Lord’s spiritual kingdom, when we plant and cultivate the Lord’s promises in our hearts (Mark 4:20, 29, 2 Peter 1:2-4). Interestingly, the devil’s primary focus is the preventing of these seeds growing in our hearts.
Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the Word that was sown in their hearts
If the devil’s primary strategy is to steal the Word of God from our hearts, this should alert us that our primary strategy should be to grow and cultivate the Word of God in our hearts. This is in fact what the Lord instructs us to do, and is the most important Christian activity to bear fruit in the Lord’s kingdom. Jesus said:
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing… if ye abide in me and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you
John 15:4-5, 7
Keep in mind, Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1-3, 14, Revelation 19:13)! Without the Word of God abiding in us we cannot bear the fruits of the Lord’s kingdom.
Meditation of God’s Word
The method of planting and cultivating spiritual seed in our hearts is called meditation (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:2, Romans 12:2). Meditation repeatedly speaks God’s promises out loud until we can imagine ourselves experiencing the Lord’s promises. Meditation develops patterns in our mind which flow in unity and agreement with the Lord’s covenant promises. Meditation of God’s promises is the process of planting and growing spiritual seed in our hearts, which will develop our faith shield and bring to us revelation of God’s covenant.
Meditation is an engagement in spiritual warfare as it casts down devilish thoughts and replaces them with the Lord’s promises.
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; casting down imaginations, and every high things which exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringeth into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
Notice that spiritual warfare is in the area of our imagination, knowledge and thoughts. The enemy will actively try and disturb any time we set aside for meditation, so we need to be aware of the distractions of the enemy and make a disciplined commitment to meditate to develop our faith shield.
The development of our faith shield takes time, as the faith shield is the fruit of the process of cultivating spiritual seed in our hearts.
And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how
Our responsibility is the planting and cultivating of the seeds of God’s promises in our hearts. The Lord’s responsibility is the growth of the seed, which will produce the faith shield.
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase… for we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry
1 Corinthians 3:6, 9
When we are faithful to plant and water the seeds of God’s Word in our hearts, the Lord will be faithful to bring the increase of that seed to fruitfulness. The word translated husbandry is the Greek word ‘georgion’ which means: cultivable, that is a farm: - husbandry (Strong’s Dictionary). Our heart is the Lord’s farm. The Lord expects us to plant His precious seeds in His farm, to produce His fruit in our lives. The Lord wills us to be victorious soldiers, or warriors, in this spiritual battle. He fully expects us to take the shield of faith so that we will be protected from the attacks of the devil spirits. We should not be derelict, or negligent, in this spiritual battle.
Aspects of the shield of faith
The shield of faith protects us from the attacks of the devil spirits, and draws God’s power into our lives, in the realms of our spirit, soul, body and finances.
Be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises
To inherit the promises of the Lord we will need to be diligent, not slothful, in our cultivation of the seeds of the Lord’s promises in our hearts. The seed will bring faith, but we will need to be patient and give time for the seed to grow and produce its fruit. Some great benefits of taking the shield of faith include:
- Long life – Psalm 91:16
- Freedom from sickness and disease – Matthew 8:17, Psalm 103:3, 1 Peter 2:24
- Plenteous financial supply – Deuteronomy 28:8, Proverbs 3:10, Matthew 6:33, Philippians 4:19, 2 Corinthians 9:8
- Safety from accidents – Psalm 91:1, 7, 11
- Freedom from anxiety and worry – Romans 8:6, Philippians 4:6-8
- Eternal life – 1 John 5:11-13
It should be noted that to experience these, and other, benefits, of taking the shield of faith, it also requires taking unto you the whole armour of God. Part of that armour is having our loins girt about with truth, which includes walking in unity with the Holy Spirit. Sometimes tragedy or calamity comes to the Christian’s life, due to the human error of not following the leadings of the Holy Spirit. We need to be continually vigilant and sensitive to the inner promptings of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. All the parts of the Lord’s armour are necessary, and work together, to ensure our victorious life in Christ Jesus.
If we are diligent to develop and take up the shield of faith, and walk in step with the truth of the Holy Spirit, we can be confident of protection from all the fiery darts of the wicked. In other words, we can potentially walk through life enjoying, like Jesus, supernatural power, and protection from the Lord in such areas as: our health, our finances, protection from accidents and terror attacks and, protection from devilish thoughts. This divine power and protection will give us a much higher quality of life where we will be empowered to freely follow the Holy Spirit and contribute our gifts and callings to a world which desperately needs the Lord’s salvation.
Our faith shield is developed as we diligently plant and water the seeds of the Lord’s covenant promises in our hearts. This is a daily discipline which takes many days, weeks, months and years. The more diligent we are, the stronger and more complete our faith shield will be and, the more we will experience the multiplied grace and peace, and power of the Lord (2 Peter 1:2-4).
Dear Father God, thank you for giving us your spiritual armour. In particular, thank you for the shield of faith, which has the potential to protect us 100% from the attacks of the devil spirits. Please strengthen us to be diligent, not derelict, in planting and cultivating the precious seeds of your covenant promises in our hearts. Thank you that these spiritual seeds will produce faith and knowledge in our hearts, which will draw your power into our lives and protect us from the attacks of the devil spirits. Thank you for the possibility, through taking the shield of faith, to able to walk freely, supernaturally and victoriously through this earth - to fulfil our God-given dreams. We pray this in Jesus Christ name, Amen.
