Dear partners and friends,
This month we conducted three 3-day seminars and four church meetings is three cities in Myanmar / Burma including the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw. It was a wonderfully successful time of ministry! The Word of the Lord was enthusiastically received with invitations to return to all the places in the future. The reality is the hunger for the ‘true knowledge’ of God’s Word is huge in Myanmar. Some of the highlights include:
- Many pastors, leaders and elders received revelation knowledge, for the first time, of how the power of kingdom of God is received – through receiving the spiritual seed of the Lord’s covenant promises into our heart through meditation
- Pastor, and his church secretary and his wife, baptised with the Holy Spirit
- 246 copies of “The Sword of the Spirit” in the Burmese language distributed
- We prayed with the governor of a city in his provincial headquarters and anointed him with oil and declared Jesus as Lord over the city administration. This was a first for the city
- Total attendance at all seminars 600 people, with one seminar full and overflowing. It is very challenging for churches to get permissions to build new facilities, let alone large church buildings
- We prayed for and anointed with oil many, many people (James 5:14)
- We experienced strong anointing of the Holy Spirit during preaching, teaching and prayer
Thank you to those churches and individuals who prayed and interceded for this mission. The Lord, and I, and the people of Myanmar are very grateful for this expression of your love.
Teaching – Binding and Loosing

Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven
The Greek word translated bind is the verb ‘deo’ and means: to bind (in various applications, literally or figuratively): - bind, be in bonds, knit, tie, wind (Strong’s Dictionary)
The Greek word translated loose is the verb ‘luo’ and means: to loosen (literally or figuratively): - break (up), destroy, dissolve, (un-) loose, melt, put off (Strong’s Dictionary).
Context of Binding and Loosing
Some contend, as Jesus was speaking to Peter, that the Lord will build His church upon Peter; and the subsequent authority to bind and loose was given only to Peter, and Peter’s successors. However, the context and basis of, the blessing, and the authority to bind and loose, was not Peter, but the revelation of ‘the Christ’, who is the Word of God (John 1:14).
We can see this clearly in Matthew 16:18 where Jesus names Simon Barjona - ‘Peter’ (Greek: Petros). Petros means: a (piece of) rock (Strong’s Dictionary). However, Jesus does not say He will build His church upon ‘Petros’; rather Jesus says he will build His church upon this rock (Greek: Petra). The rock upon which Jesus will build His church, is different from Peter (‘Petros’). Jesus uses the word ‘Petra’ which means: a (mass of) rock (Strong’s dictionary). Jesus is saying that Simon Barjona is a piece of rock (because Simon had revelation from heaven concerning the Word of God), and Jesus will build His church, not upon a piece of rock but, upon a mass of rock.
The mass of rock which Jesus is referring to is the full revelation from heaven of the Word of God. Jesus will build His church, not upon a man Peter but, upon the revelation knowledge of His Word. It is in this context that the authority to bind and loose is given. Therefore, every born-again Christian, who has received true revelation of the Word of God, has also been given the authority to bind and loose.
What type of binding and loosing?
Jesus said, what we bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and what we loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Jesus is referring to spiritual power, where we can issue commands in His name and the authority and power of heaven will be released on the earth. Through this exercise of authority, we conform the earth to the will of God. To exercise spiritual authority, therefore, it is necessary for the Christian to be aware of, have revelation, and be filled with faith in the covenant promises of the Lord.
We are to pray for the will of heaven to come to earth (Matthew 6:10). The will of heaven has been revealed through the covenant promises of the Scripture. Our responsibility is to bind the will of heaven, the covenant promises, to every aspect of our lives; and to loose-off our lives those devilish circumstances which oppose the will of heaven. The prayers of binding and loosing are authoritative actions which help to establish the will of the kingdom of heaven on the earth.
The Power of Heaven Enforces our Commands
The ‘keys’ of the kingdom of heaven symbolize the authority of the kingdom of heaven. When we bind and loose in the name of Jesus Christ we are assured that the power, and authority, of heaven will enforce our commands.
In Luke’s gospel, we see an example of a woman who is bound by a spirit of infirmity. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself (Luke 13:11). Jesus said that the woman had been bound by Satan for all this time (Luke 13:16). Jesus loosened her from the bond. When Jesus saw her, He called her to Him, and said unto her, woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And He laid His hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God (Luke 13:12-13).
Jesus exercised His spiritual authority to loose-the woman from a devil spirit which had caused her physical affliction for eighteen years. In another example, Jesus opened a deaf and dumb man’s ears, and loosed his tongue (Mark 7:32-37)
Jesus said these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils (Mark 16:17). Jesus has given born again believers the authority to use His name to cast out, or loose, devil spirits and their influences from people’s lives.
Similarly, we can bind God’s spiritual promises, and power, to our lives. When we meditate the promises of the Lord we are planting the seed of God’s Word into our heart (Mark 4:26). When we plant a spiritual seed into our heart we are binding and establishing that spiritual seed into our lives. As the seed is ‘living spirit’, the power of the seed / promise will also be bound to our lives (John 6:63).
We can also use our faith to assist the binding of a Word / promise of God to someone else’s life. We can pray the will / promise of the Lord over someone else’s life and ask for the anointing of the Lord to be present to potentially manifest into their life. This, however, is not as powerful as our personal meditation, because the person we pray for retains their free will, and they may choose to block the power and anointing of the Lord.
Can we Bind Satan?
Some Christians talk about binding Satan, and use Jesus’ illustration about binding the strong man and stealing his goods as their proof text (Matthew 12:29). However, the context of the illustration is casting out, not binding, devils. If I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you (Matthew 12:28).
If Jesus is teaching that we can bind the devil, we need to consider what we will bind the devil to? Can we bind the devil to a tree or a building? I wish we could, then we would have less problems in the world. However, the Scripture says: be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). The devil is not bound to any one area, as he is walking about. However, we can take authority over the devil and cast him out, or exclude him, from our lives and circumstances; at least for a season. Jesus’ illustration about binding the strong man and plundering his house simply means we must first take authority over a man before we can plunder his house. In a similar way, we must first take authority over the devil by casting the devil out of, or loosing the devil from, a situation, before we can free people from the devil’s bondages.
The Scripture does declare that, in the future, the devil will be bound and shut up in the bottomless pit for a thousand years and then loosed again a little season (Revelation 20:2-7). But for now, the devil, and all the devil spirits, are walking about the earth seeking whom they may devour. So, we need to be on our guard and exercising our spiritual authority, when necessary, to loose the devil spirits off our bodies, minds, health, finances, family and loved ones.
Jesus has given His believers the authority to bind and loose on the earth. The foundation for this authority is revelation knowledge of the Scripture. Revelation knowledge comes as we meditate the Lord’s covenant promises. As the seed of God’s promises grows in our hearts, revelation knowledge will be a fruit. We exercise God’s authority on the earth through binding His precious Word to our lives and the lives of our loved ones. We similarly loose the devil spirits off our lives and the lives of our loved ones. The power of heaven will back what we bind and loose, in Jesus’ name.
Dear Father God,
Thank you that you have given us the power to bind and loose on the earth. Thank you that you promise to use your power to back what we bind and loose. Please strengthen us to diligently meditate your covenant promises so we can receive the necessary revelation knowledge to exercise this authority. Please also give us the revelation and strength to exercise the keys of your kingdom through binding and loosing. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
