- Resources / Study
Dear partners and friends, this month we completed a very intensive, and successful, time of ministry in Burma / Myanmar. In partnership with the local churches, we continue to utilize significant opportunities to strengthen and encourage the Lord’s church in Myanmar. Over the past nine years, in challenging conditions, we have successfully conducted 27, three-day, seminars in many major capital cities throughout various states and divisions of Myanmar.
I have just arrived in Singapore for a new mission. Pray that the gospel can continue to have free course in this very strategic nation (2 Thessalonians 3:1).
This month’s teaching, “Faith in the Scriptures”, is exceedingly important. Jesus’ paramount teaching in the ‘parable of the seed’ reveals that the devil’s primary strategy is to stop, or hinder, people from growing the spiritual seed of God’s Word in their hearts (Mark 4:1-29). The devil will effectively achieve his goal if we doubt the divine inspiration of the Scriptures. The divine inspiration of the Scriptures is the foundation upon which rests faith, the knowledge of truth, eternal salvation, receiving the power of God, and the exercise of spiritual authority. Be blessed this month, with love, Andrew.

To exercise faith in the Scriptures we must first believe in the existence of God.
The fool hath said in His heart, there is no God
Psalms 14:1; 53:1
The Hebrew word translated fool is ‘nabal’ and means: stupid, wicked (especially impious): - fool, vile person (Strong’s Dictionary).
The Scripture declares that the invisible attributes of God, His eternal power and Godhead, are clearly seen and understood by the things that are made; which is the creation (Romans 1:20). The two Psalms, listed above, reveal that a fool; a stupid, wicked, vile person denies this evident truth of God’s existence, which has been made known to all men through God’s creation (Romans 1:18-19).
After accepting the existence of the invisible God, the next step is to understand that God has communicated to us in written form through the Scriptures. To fully receive God’s blessings we will need to, believe in the divine inspiration of the Scriptures and, learn how to develop faith in God’s Scriptures.
To effectively exercise faith in the Lord’s Scriptures, which results in receiving God’s power, we must develop an unwavering faith in the complete inspiration of the Scriptures. The reason we need unwavering faith is because, faith which brings results needs to be without doubt. The devils number one strategy is to encourage us to doubt that we have God’s pure Word in the Scriptures. If the devil can succeed in bringing even a little bit of doubt into our mind as to whether the Scriptures are pure, and completely inspired by our Creator or not, then we will be double minded and let not that man think he shall receive anything from the Lord.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways
In the above Scripture passage we see a critical principle for exercising effective faith. To receive anything of the Lord we must eliminate doubt, double mindedness and wavering from our hearts.
To successfully exercise faith, we need to understand what faith is based on.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God
Faith is based on, either, a direct Word from God by His Spirit or from the Scriptures. The Scriptures, however, are the clearest and most authoritative basis for understanding our Creator God and knowing the certainty of God’s will. Without the Scriptures, people present multitudes of ideas about God and Jesus and there is no way to refute, or correct, those ideas. The Scriptures are the basis for judging truth; to know right from wrong, truth from error, and what is the general will of the Lord.
If the devil can deceive us into having doubt about the veracity, or divine inspiration, of the Scriptures, the devil has undercut our faith and has a foothold to create doubt in our minds. Doubt will result in our faith being useless, or powerless. Therefore, 100% confidence in the divine inspiration of the Scriptures is of paramount importance!
As Scripture is integral for true faith, we must therefore define what is the Scripture. The Scripture is a collection of sixty-six writings, contained in two ancient manuscripts: the Old Testament, Hebrew, Masoretic Text and the New Testament, Greek, Textus Receptus. The bible was written by 35 named authors and five unnamed authors, including: Moses, Ezra, Nehemiah, David, Asaph, Sons of Korah, Solomon, Ethan, Heman, Agur, Lemuel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, James, Peter, and Jude (http://overviewbible.com/authors-who-wrote-bible/). The bible was written by these men between 1,500 B.C. and 95 A.D. (https://www.biblica.com/resources/bible-faqs/when-was-the-bible-written/). The bible was originally written in the ancient Hebrew and Koine Greek languages, with a very small portion of the Old Testament written in the Aramaic language (http://www.bibleinfo.com/en/questions/original-language-bible).
Is God able to divinely write to us through men?
This is a critical question! Would it be possible for the Creator of the Universe to communicate to His human creation, in a pure and incorruptible way, in written form through His prophets? In other words, could God write to us through chosen individuals, and is it possible that God could cause those writings be 100% inspired by Himself? If God can create a universe with all its size, power and complexity, it is a relatively small thing that God could also communicate to us in written form through His created men. In fact, it would seem unreasonable that an obviously intelligent Creator would not communicate in written form to His intelligent children. Remember, we are the created offspring and descendants of God, not the evolution of, slime or, animals (Luke 3:38, Genesis 1:26-27, Acts 17:29). So yes, it is entirely logical that God, is able and, has divinely written to us through men.
Scripture also emphatically emphasises that Scripture is divinely breathed by God, and is incorruptible:
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
2 Timothy 3:16
The words translated is given by inspiration of God is the Greek word ‘theopneustos’ and means: divinely breathed in: - given by inspiration of God (Strong’s Dictionary). The Scripture declares that God breathed through the men as they wrote:
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost
2 Peter 1:20-21
Peter specifically addresses this issue of the divine inspiration of Scripture, and says that Scripture came by the will of God and not… by the will of man. Peter explains that God moved upon men by His Holy Spirit to write the Scriptures. The words translated they were moved is the Greek word ‘phero’ and means: to bear or carry (literally and figuratively): - bring (forth) (Strong’s Dictionary). Thirty-five to forty holy men of God, approximately 3,500 to 1,900 years ago, were moved upon by God to speak God’s Words. These Words were written down and have been preserved for us today, so we can have certainty concerning God’s will.
Peter also assures us that the Scriptures are incorruptible and endure forever:
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth forever… the Word of the Lord endureth forever
1 Peter 1:23, 25
Is God able to Preserve His Word for our Generation?
God is able, and has communicated to us in written form through His prophets in time past. Is God able to, also, preserve His Word in purity for each generation?
We have established that it is, logical and, Scriptural for our Creator to communicate to us in written form, so that we are without doubt as to His will. But, is God also able to preserve His Word in purity for each generation? Surely an all-powerful God can also preserve His written Word! It would seem illogical for God to write His Word and then not use His supreme power to preserve it. Without God’s Word, we would be lost and in darkness; vulnerable to the subtle trickery of the millions of the enemy, devil spirits who wish to steal, kill and bring destruction to our lives (John 10:10).
The Scripture also directly addresses the issue of the preservation of Scripture for our generation:
The Words of the Lord are pure Words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation forever
The word translated preserve is the Hebrew word ‘natzar’ and means: to guard… (to protect, maintain…) or… (to conceal…): - … hidden thing, keep…, monument, observe, preserve (-r), … watcher (-man) (Strong’s Dictionary). The Scripture declares that the Lord will guard, protect, maintain, watch over and preserve His pure Word as a monument, or testament, to our generation and forever.
Forever, O LORD, thy Word is settled in heaven
The word translated settled is the Hebrew word ‘natzab’ and means: to station… appointed… erect, establish… pillar (Strong’s Dictionary). The Lord’s Word is established forever as a pillar, and God uses his power to preserve it in our generation.
Thy Word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgements endureth forever
Think through the issues of the divine inspiration, and divine preservation, of the Scriptures
It is worth taking some time to think through the logic of the following:
- The creation reveals there is obviously an intelligent Creator
- Our Creator has the ability to communicate clearly to us in written form
- It is logical that our intelligent Creator would communicate to us in written form, so that we would know what is true from what is false
- Our Creator has the ability to preserve the purity of His written communication to every generation
Correct interpretation of the Scriptures
Once we accept the divine inspiration of the bible which has been preserved for our generation, the obvious next important issue is the correct interpretation of the Scriptures. This is another major battle ground where the devil spirits work overtime to lead people into incorrect conclusions concerning the Scriptures. I have identified five, biblical ‘prisms of interpretation’ which are irrefutable Scriptural lenses through which to view the Scriptures from. These prisms, or lenses, will help us enormously to correctly interpret the Scriptures. The five prisms are: Blood Covenant, The Parable of the Seed, New Creation, Justification / Righteousness by Faith, and God is Love. The written teachings of the five prisms were written in the order that I have listed, and it would be more profitable to study them in that order, go to: http://www.andrewshreeve.org/prisms-of-interpretation.html. I have also made twelve video teachings of these five prisms, go to: https://www.youtube.com/user/AndrewJShreeve/playlists and click on the playlist ‘Prisms of Interpretation’. It is good to listen to these videos in their order, part 1 to 6 etc.
We need to trust that:
- God is able to come upon, and inspire, His human creation to divinely speak and write His Words
- Our Creator has communicated to us in written form through the bible
- God is able to preserve His Word to all generations
- The bible is God’s written Scripture to us, His human creation
- A true exercise of faith is faith in the Scriptures
- Without the Scriptures, we are vulnerable to the deceit and seduction of the devil spirits. The Scripture is our protection from spiritual deception
- Beware of man-made rules which are not defined in the Scriptures. You cannot trust man 100%, but you can trust God and His Scriptures 100%
Dear Father God, thank you that you have not left us without clear knowledge and understanding concerning your will. Thank you that you have come upon your human creation to write to us your Scriptures. Thank you that you use your power to preserve the purity of your Scriptures to every generation. Please enlighten our understanding to realize these truths. Help us understand we need to exercise unwavering faith in your Scriptures. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
