Dear partners and friends,

I wish you a very blessed and prosperous 2018. I pray the Lord will give you wisdom and strength, to position yourself to receive increased blessing and anointing from the Lord this year. This will be achieved as we diligently plant and cultivate the Lord’s incorruptible Word / seed in our hearts, and the hearts of our loved ones (1 Corinthians 3:6-9). Specifically, the seeds of God’s honourable promises have the potential to release more of the Lord’s grace, power, peace and love into our lives (2 Peter 1:1-4).

As we reflect upon and review our achievements in 2017, I acknowledge the grace and love of the Lord. We would not be able to achieve these successful results without the Lord’s mercy, grace, and power, received through faith in Jesus Christ and His Word.  Also, thank you to the many hundreds of partners and friends who partnered, assisted and contributed towards our mission efforts. Success in international, Christian ministry is always a team effort, and the many who contributed, through prayer, finance, encouragement, love and practical helps, fully partake of the success, reward and fruit of the ministry. Thank you.

With love, Andrew

Teaching – Jerusalem, part 2

Copyright © Andrew J. Shreeve 2018

  • Introduction

Jerusalem is the most important city in the world. Jerusalem is the city which God choose as the capital of His chosen people, Israel. Jerusalem is where God the Son, Jesus Christ, died on the Cross of Calvary to remit the sins of the world, and rose from the dead to provide eternal salvation for all who will believe. Jerusalem is where the Lord’s church, the body of Christ, was birthed and first established. Jerusalem will be central to Jesus second coming and the Day of the Lord.

This is the second, and final, part of our teaching on Jerusalem. In part 1, we studied the Scriptures pertaining to Jerusalem, in biblical order, from Genesis to the book of Job. In this teaching, we will continue the study in biblical order from the Psalms to the last book of the bible, the book of Revelation in the New Testament.

  • Jerusalem in the Psalms

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee

Psalm 122:6

There is a promise of prosperity for those who pray for the ‘shalom’ of Jerusalem, and love Jerusalem.

Blessed be the Lord out of Zion, which dwelleth at Jerusalem

Psalm 135:21

The Creator God dwelt at Jerusalem.

  • Jerusalem in the Prophets

Let us go up to the mountain of the Lord; to the House of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem

Isaiah 2:3

The House of the God of Jacob (Israel) is located at Jerusalem. The Word of the Lord comes from Jerusalem.

The moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the Lord of Hosts shall reign in Mount Zion, and in Jerusalem

Isaiah 24:23

The Lord God has future plans for Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the city from which the God of Israel will rule over all the earth.

As birds flying, so will the Lord of Hosts defend Jerusalem, defending He also will deliver it; and passing over He will preserve it

Isaiah 31:5

Surely, the Lord will defend, deliver and preserve Jerusalem.

At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem

Jeremiah 3:17

Jerusalem shall be called the throne of God.

All that pass by clap their hands at thee; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, is this the city that men called The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth? … The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem

Lamentations 2:15, 4:12

Jerusalem was so powerful and grand under Solomon, the King of Israel, that people could not believe that the enemy could come in and destroy its beauty and prosperity. In a critique, by the prophet Ezekiel, of Jerusalem’s sins, the impression is that Jerusalem belongs to God and is not for sale or negotiation. Jerusalem is God’s favoured possession (Ezekiel 16:1-42) The Lord calls Jerusalem as playing the harlot, as if Jerusalem is God’s wife.

Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance

Joel 2:32

Deliverance comes from Jerusalem: where Jesus was crucified, raised from the dead, ascended to heaven, and where the Holy Spirit was poured out (Acts 2:16-21).

The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and earth shall shake

Joel 3:16, Amos 1:2

The Lord’s voice comes from Jerusalem.

Judah shall dwell forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation

Joel 3:20

God has a plan for Jerusalem from generation to generation. Jerusalem is God’s city.

In the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established… and many nations shall come, and say, Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us His ways, and we will walk in His paths: for the law shall go forth from Zion, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem

Micah 4:1-2

The Lord has a plan for Jerusalem in the last days. The Word of the God of Jacob (Israel), the Word of the Lord, shall come forth from Jerusalem.

Thus saith the Lord of Hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy

Zechariah 1:14

The Lord of Hosts has a great jealousy for Jerusalem.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold thy King cometh unto thee; He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass

Zechariah 9:9

This is the prophecy of Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem on Passover (Matthew 21:1-5). Notice Jesus is the king of the daughter of Jerusalem. Jerusalem is central to the plan of God for the salvation of the world.

It shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem

Zechariah 12:9

It would be a foolish government, and nation, indeed that would come against Jerusalem. As they will cause the Lord to destroy them.

Behold, the day of the Lord cometh… I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle… then shall the Lord go forth and fight against those nations… and His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst

Zechariah 14:1-4

When the day of the Lord comes, all nations will gather against Jerusalem to battle. The Lord will fight against those nations who come against Jerusalem. When the Lord Jesus returns He will return to the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem. The day of the Lord will be centred at Jerusalem.

And it shall be, that whoso shall not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, even upon them shall be no rain

Zechariah 14:17

In the future, all the families of the earth will come to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts.

  • Jesus’ statements about Jerusalem

Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King

Matthew 5:35

The city of Jerusalem is the city of the great King Jesus Christ. Jerusalem’s government should be in the hands of God’s people. God historically chose the Jews to govern His city Jerusalem. The Lord has a future plan for the full salvation of the Jews (Romans 9:3-5, 10:19-11:32). All Israel shall be saved: as it is written, there shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob (Romans 11:26, Psalm 14:7). Sion is a hill of Jerusalem (Strong’s Dictionary).

Jesus… must go to Jerusalem

Matthew 16:21

Jesus’ suffering, crucifixion and resurrection was destined to be in Jerusalem

Then spake Jesus… saying… O Jerusalem, Jerusalem … how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not

Matthew 23:1-2, 37, Luke 13:34

Jesus has a great love for Jerusalem.

And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple… is it not written, my house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer?

Mark 11:15, 17

Jesus called the temple in Jerusalem, His House.

Jesus was presented to the Lord in Jerusalem (Luke 2:22)

Jesus was appointed to die in Jerusalem (Luke 9:31)

Jesus steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem (Luke 9:51)

When ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh… then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory

Luke 21:20, 27

End times prophecy is centred around Jerusalem.

Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem

Luke 24:47

The gospel of Jesus Christ is first to be preached at Jerusalem.

  • Jerusalem and the New Testament

Tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endured with power from on high

Luke 24:49, Acts 1:4

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is first poured out in Jerusalem.

Ye shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem

Acts 1:8

The first witness of Jesus is from Jerusalem.

Behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine

Acts 5:28

The doctrine of the gospel was first taught in Jerusalem.

The Word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith

Acts 6:7

The first church was in Jerusalem, which included a great company of Jewish priests.

There was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem

 Acts 8:1

The first persecution of God’s church was in Jerusalem.

In the future, the name of the holy city… coming down from God out of heaven is new Jerusalem or holy Jerusalem (Revelation 3:12, 21:2, 10)

  • Conclusion

In Jerusalem, part 1, we saw that from the time of Abraham, God chose Jerusalem to be His city, and the capital of His nation Israel. Jerusalem has been central to the plan of God: the ark of the covenant was brought there; the temple of God was built there; 21 kings of Israel and Judah reigned from there; Jerusalem became the most beautiful city in the world; Kings of Persia recognised Jerusalem as the place where of the God of Israel dwelt.

In Jerusalem, part 2, we see that the prophets said deliverance would come from Jerusalem. The Word of the Lord would come forth from Jerusalem. Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem; the Christian church was birthed in Jerusalem; the power of the Holy Spirit was first poured out in Jerusalem; the first witness of Jesus was in Jerusalem; the first preaching of the gospel was in Jerusalem. In end time prophecy nations will come against Jerusalem; Jesus will return to Jerusalem on the Day of the Lord; and the new city of God coming from heaven will be called New Jerusalem, or holy Jerusalem.

  • Prayer

Dear Father God, thank you for this biblical teaching concerning Jerusalem. We recognise that Jerusalem is your chosen city, and central to your plans for this earth. Jerusalem is the historical, capital city of your people Israel. Thank you for the historical evidence, in the bible, where we see many Kings of Israel and Judah reigning from Jerusalem. We thank you that your deliverance comes from Jerusalem; the Word of the Lord comes forth from Jerusalem; Jesus was crucified for our sins, and resurrected from the dead, in Jerusalem; the first Christian church was born in Jerusalem; the mighty baptism of the Holy Spirit was first poured out in Jerusalem; and the first witness of Jesus’ resurrection was in Jerusalem. We also know that Jesus will return to Jerusalem on the Day of the Lord.

Lord we humble ourselves to your will for Jerusalem. We pray for the peace and blessing of Jerusalem. We pray you will bless the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the nation of Israel, whom you have given Jerusalem as their capital city. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
