How to Tap into the Power of God

Copyright © Andrew J. Shreeve 2006

Romans 1:16 I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth

Power: dunamis: miraculous power, strength, violence, mighty work, abundance

Salvation: soteria: rescue, safety, deliver, health, salvation, save.

Believeth: pisteuo: to have faith, commit, trust.

The good news of Jesus Christ and his anointing is the miracle power of God unto our safety, deliverance, and health. We receive this power when we believe, commit to, and have faith in Christ’s Words.

The gospel is only power to those who believe. Belief, therefore, is essential to the receiving of God’s power.

How does belief come?

Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17)

God’s Words contain faith!

What part of God’s Word should we focus on?

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).

How do we receive God’s promises so we can receive faith and partake of God’s divine nature? We partner and grow with the Lord when we receive, believe, and act upon God’s great, and honoured, assurances. We need to plant the seeds of God’s promises into our heart if we want to experience God’s power in our lives:

So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground (Mark 4:26).

God’s kingdom works through the planting of spiritual seed (God’s Word) into our heart (mind and spirit). We receive God’s Word by planting and nurturing spiritual seed through a process called meditation. Meditation is daily verbal repetition of God’s Words until the words penetrate our mind and are received into our spirit. We know the words have penetrated our mind when our emotions are effected by the words in a positive receptive way:

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8).

The Lord gave Joshua the principles of success for possessing the Promised Land. This is the same principle we are to practice to possess our spiritual promises.

  1. Speak the promises out loud
  2. Meditate the promises continually day and night (murmur, ponder, imagine, mutter, roar, speak, study, talk, utter)
  3. Act according to what the promises say
  4. The result is prosperity (push forward, break out, go over, profit)
  5. The result is good success (wisdom, prudent, instruction, intelligent, expert, skill, teach, understand).

Psalm 1:1-3

V1: do not walk according to the advice of the ungodly; do not stand in the pathway of people who offend; do not sit down or dwell with those who scoff.

V2 rather take pleasure in the Words of the Lord and meditate God’s Words always

V3 this will cause us to be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, we will be fruitful in our season. Our leaf will not wither and we will not fail. Rather, whatever we do shall prosper.

God’s word is spiritual seed. To be fruitful in God’s kingdom our first focus needs to be the planting and protecting of the spiritual seed in our heart:

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23)

Guard or maintain your heart like a prison guard protects the prison from intrusion. Our life flows from our heart. Our life will be a product of the seed we have sown, or have allowed to be sown, in our heart.

To change our life is easy. All we need to do is choose some spiritual seed and plant it into our heart. Over the time the seed will produce after its own kind.

The book ‘The Sword of the Spirit’ (go to / books) contains many of the promises of God presented in affirmation format for easy meditation and planting into our heart.

The Lord has given to us all the power we need to lead a healthy, prosperous, life. The Lord has given us spiritual seeds in the bible. These seeds are the promises of God. As we meditate these words we are permitting their entry and growth in our heart. The seeds will produce faith and revelation. As we agree with God’s Word we give our authorization and agreement for God to intervene into our circumstances. This faith and verbal agreement causes our life to come into conformity with his written assurances. The receiving of God’s seed through diligent daily meditation is how we tap into the power of God.
