Freedom

Definition

Freedom is the state of exemption from the power or control of another; liberty (Webster's Dictionary).

What is complete freedom? Money brings a level of economic freedom and increased choice, but money by itself does not deliver complete freedom. Complete freedom includes freedom: in our spirit, mind, body, finances, from the oppression and fear of evil spirits and, from the power of sin.

Spiritual bondage

The scripture declares that all humans, prior to becoming born again into Jesus' kingdom, are in a spiritual prison house:

This saith God the LORD… I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house

Isaiah 42:5-7

The prison house referred to in the above verses is a spiritual, prison house of darkness. The verses also contain a reference to Jesus, who was given (or crucified) as the Son of Man, to make a blood covenant with God the Father, for all of mankind. Through faith in the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, submission and confession to His Lordship, and faith in His shed blood, all people of the earth can be released from the spiritual prison house of darkness (Romans 3:25, 10:9-10).

And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience

Ephesians 2:1-2

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son

Colossians 1:13

Paul, the apostle, writing to Christians, says that before they were born again they were spiritually separated from God (dead), and walked under the power of the devil. In other words, before people are born again into the Lord's kingdom they are spiritually separated from the Lord and are in the dark prison house of the devil.

Spiritual freedom

To be truly free we first need to be delivered from the spiritual prison house where Satan has been dominating our spirits (John 8:44). When our spirits are set free from its sin nature and the devil's oppression, we experience freedom in our hearts (Ephesians 4:24). Our spirits becomes united with the Spirit of our creator - the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13). This is the first and most important foundation for true liberty and freedom, as our spirits are liberated from sin and made holy, and real peace comes into our hearts.

Freedom of forgiveness

Through the new, spiritual birth we experience forgiveness by God for all our sins (Hebrews 8:12, 10:17). This empowers us to forgive others, and ourselves. Without the sense of 100% forgiveness we will never experience true freedom; as guilt, regret, and the bitterness of un-forgiveness will be still be attached to our souls.

Freedom of communion

Another aspect of freedom is the ability to speak and commune with our creator without the fear of judgement and rejection (1 John 2:1-2). Even many born again Christians are not fully aware of this freedom. Freedom from rejection by the Lord is based upon a full understanding of the power of the holy blood of Jesus Christ to remit all our sins - past, present and future (Hebrews 10:14). When we understand our creator's justice system, we realize our creator esteems Jesus' blood as sufficient payment to remit all the sins of the world (Hebrews 10:19). We appropriate this remission of our sins through faith in Jesus' blood, and confession of the Lordship of the resurrected Jesus of Nazareth. It is this foundation, of the revelation of righteousness through faith (Romans 5:1), which liberates us into free and intimate communion, and fellowship, with our creator - Jesus Christ.

Freedom through God's power

The next element to experience true freedom is to understand the principles of the kingdom of our creator. Jesus said: so is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground (Mark 4:26). The fruit, or revealed power of God's kingdom, only manifests into our lives if we are diligent to plant, grow and cultivate the promises of the Holy bible in our hearts. Even the godly fruits of the Spirit like: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control are connected to our successful cultivation in our hearts of the promises of our Lord (Galatians 5:22-23). The scripture declares that God's power gives us all things that pertain unto… godliness through the knowledge of His promises (2 Peter 1:3-4). Godliness would include the manifestation of fruits of the Spirit in our lives.

As the seeds of the promises of our Lord grow in our hearts, faith increases in our hearts. It is this product, of faith from the holy seeds, which draws the power of the Lord into our lives. The creator has committed himself to His promises and will release His power when people have genuine faith in His promises. Faith moves the mighty arm of the Lord (Isaiah 53:1, Romans 1:16)! True freedom is never attained apart from the manifestation of the power of the Lord, which is released into our lives when the Lord honours our faith in His covenant promises.

Money provides certain liberty, but it is limited. Money, for example, cannot cure you of an incurable disease such as strongly developed cancer, but God's healing power can free you from the bondage of that disease (Psalm 103:3). Money cannot guide you away from the danger of an unforeseen accident, but faith in the leading of the Holy Spirit will cause the Lord to honour His Word and warn you about such a path, thus keeping you safe (Psalm 91:1, 7, 11, 16). Money cannot give you infinite wisdom to always make wise choices, but the Lord who knows the hearts of all, can see into the future, and can lead us away from making poor choices (Romans 8:14, 16, 1 Corinthians 1:30). Then there are those who are caught in the bondage of poverty, lacking the financial resources for a healthy life. For those in poverty, the financial promises of the Lord are sometimes the only hope they have to walk into economic freedom (Matthew 6:33, Philippians 4:19, Psalm 23:1, Luke 4:4, 2 Peter 1:3).

Conclusion

True freedom is only found when we walk in faith in the Word, and with the Spirit, of our creator. True freedom encompasses our spirit, soul, body, finances, relationships and eternal destiny. Only in the person of Jesus of Nazareth (the King of the universe), and in His kingdom, is this freedom found!

Pray with me: Father God, thank you for the true and complete freedom which comes through faith in Jesus Christ. Thank you that when we step into Jesus' kingdom we receive a new spirit, which is free from the devil and the power of sin. Thank you that we also experience your forgiveness and the power to truly forgive others. Thank you for the freedom to lovingly communicate with you without the fear of rejection and judgement for our sins. Thank you for the freedom which the power of your kingdom brings in such areas as: freedom from sickness, poverty, danger of accidents, and the wisdom to make good decisions.
