Overcoming Affliction with the Armour of God

Copyright © Andrew J. Shreeve 2006

Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all (Psalm 34:19)

As Christians we are engaged in a deadly battle against Satan and his demonic hosts (Ephesians 6:12). The Lord has provided us with his spiritual armour (Ephesians 6:11). He has also given us absolute authority over our enemy, in Jesus’ name (Matthew 28:18). However, the enemy sends fiery darts our way (Ephesians 6:16), and if we are not properly armoured and walking in the Spirit of the Lord we may get hit.

In fact, the more we receive the Word of the Lord the more we become a threat to the enemy, and the more we will attract enemy fire.

Persecution or affliction ariseth for the Word sake (Mark 4:17).

Persecution often will come through people who are open to the manipulation of the devil. The devil will use these people to slander and discredit us. This is an attempt of the enemy to divert our attention from God’s Word and therefore weaken us spiritually, steal our joy, and ultimately cause us to sin (Mark 4:15, 17).

So when affliction comes, let us not even give it our attention. Let’s keep our attention on the Word of the Lord.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee (Isaiah 26:3).

If we stay with the Word our spiritual armour is intact. Then the enemy will not be able to penetrate God’s armour, and his fiery darts will be like water off a duck’s back.

The Lord has provided us his spiritual armour, by which we can have deliverance and success every time. We know the enemy will come against us, but praise the Lord - we have the victory! To enjoy success in spiritual warfare our focus must not be on the circumstances, but rather on the armour of God.

The Armour of God

Let’s focus on the truth (Ephesians 6:14)! God’s Word is truth (John 17:17). The anointing of the Lord is truth (1 John 2:27). Focus on the Word and the anointing of the Lord, for this is truth!

Let’s focus on righteousness (Ephesians 6:14)! Our new spirit is righteous (Ephesians 4:24; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Righteousness is a gift which is given to us in Christ Jesus (Romans 5:17). The Lord is our righteousness (Isaiah 54:17)!

Let’s fully know and preach the gospel of peace (Ephesians 6:15)!

Let’s be filled with faith (Ephesians 6:16)! Faith comes from the Word of God (Romans 10:17), so let’s meditate the Word of the Lord day and night continually.

Let’s know our salvation (Ephesians 6:17)! Salvation includes deliverance for our spirit, soul, and body. Let’s know and meditate the promises of God for every area of our life, so we are armoured and experience full salvation.

Let’s know and speak the Word of the Lord (Ephesians 6:17)!

Let’s be praying always in the spirit (Ephesians 6:18)! Praying in unknown tongues is praying in the spirit (1 Corinthians 14:2, 14-15).

Yes, we are in a spiritual conflict, however the Lord has given us his armour. Make sure you are fully suited with the Lord’s armour every day. Instead of being a victim of Satan’s fiery darts, advance with the Sword of the Spirit and scatter the enemy! Overcome the afflictions of the enemy through appropriating the all-powerful spiritual weapons of the Lord!
