It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are life

John 6:63

In the above verse Jesus says that His Words are Spirit. So we can say that the Word of God is Spirit. This is a very important concept to accept, as many people read the bible merely as if it were a book that contained information. Others read the bible and try and understand it with the human intellect, as if it were a scientific textbook and can be properly understood by human logic. Both these approaches will not reveal the truth of God's revelation to humanity, nor bring the power of God's deliverance from the destructive forces on the earth. To properly receive the revelation, and power, in God's Word we need to receive God's Words as living Spirit!

In fact, God's Words are living, spiritual seeds (Mark 4:14, 1 Peter 1:23, Hebrews 4:12). Truth, or revelation, and power, comes when the seed / Word is sown in the human heart and given water and time to grow and produce the fruit (Mark 4:20). Meditation is the method of sowing and watering the Word. The fruit of the seed of God's Word is: revelation, or correct understanding and; the manifested power of the particular Word that is grown in the human heart.

Only the Holy Spirit can reveal the truth of God's Word to the person, whose heart is good ground to receive it (John 16:13-15, 1 Corinthians 2:14). It is the Holy Spirit who takes God's Word and reveals it unto us. Without the planting and watering of the Word of God in the human heart, and without the revealing of the Word by the Holy Spirit to our understanding, we cannot correctly understand God's Words. The lack of understanding of these truths is the reason for so many errors and doctrinal divisions within the body of Christ.

In my personal experience I have also found this to be true. I worked and studied for two years with an international, Christian, youth mission. I then studied for two years at a faith, Pentecostal, bible school, and three years at university to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Theology. Even with years of study, because my approach to the Word of God was primarily academic, and not 'spiritually aware', I often felt like I was hitting the wall when it came to receiving God's power into my life. It was only when I changed my approach and began receiving specific seeds of God's Word into my heart, as directed by the Holy Spirit, that true understanding and power began to increasingly flow into my life.

After I 'hit the wall' I knew I needed to change my strategy. The Lord graciously helped me. The Lord taught me to temporarily put aside my knowledge from years of study (the study had some benefit, yet I needed to adjust my approach to God's Word before I could benefit correctly from the knowledge). The Lord taught me to take one seed (e.g. the Lord is my shepherd) and to accept that seed into my heart through daily, continual meditation. He then brought other seeds for me to meditate. The Lord laid various foundations in my heart by His Spirit. He revealed to me His great love, mercy, righteousness, healing, prosperity, and forgiveness etc. It became a wonderful journey of ongoing revelation as I walked with the Lord. I no longer struggled to try and understand God's Word. I simply fellowshipped with the Holy Spirit and planted and watered the seeds that He showed me. As I was faithful to plant and water the spiritual seeds, over time, revelation of those seeds was forthcoming. When revelation came so did faith and understanding. With faith came authority, and with authority came power (Matthew 16:13-19). The Lord taught me how to experience the power of His kingdom through His Word and Spirit. When we experience His power, through His Spiritual Word, we come into a greater freedom of life (John 8:31-32, 36).

To be able to exercise spiritual power we must first receive the spiritual power into our hearts. We must first receive the seed before we will experience the fruit. God's seed is His Word, which is His Spirit. When I meditate God's promises I am downloading God's spiritual power into my heart. I know it is only a matter of time before that power, which I am downloading into my heart, will flow back out of my heart and impact and change my circumstances (Proverbs 4:23, Matthew 12:34, Proverbs 18:21, James 3:2-5). It is not difficult; it is not an effort of the human strength. It is not primarily an intellectual exercise. It is a receiving of spiritual seed. The seed contains the power within it to do everything necessary to bring about the fruit. Our hearts are simply the ground, and we are the vessel (1 Corinthians 3:9).

Receiving God's Spiritual seed is what Jesus meant when he said, seek ye first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33); as He also said, so is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground (Mark 4:26). When we give first priority to meditating God's Word we are receiving God's seed into our hearts, and activating, or working, the kingdom of God… this is seeking first God's kingdom.

The receiving of God's spiritual seed is the taking of Jesus' yoke… and it is easy! Jesus said, come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). Jesus' yoke is the receiving of His Word (God's Words in the Holy Bible) into our heart. The seed of God's Word gives us rest as it contains supernatural power to assist every aspect of our lives. God's seed gives us God's power, or leverage, which makes everything easier.

As Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1, 14), and in all things He might have the pre-eminence (Colossians 1:18), it is consistent that God's Word should dominate our thoughts, imagination and emotions - our soul. When we learn to continually submit our thoughts to God's promises, we effectively hand the pressures of life over onto the Lord - we have taken Jesus' yoke. When we cast our cares on the Lord He is able to help us with His Almighty Spiritual power (1 Peter 5:7, Philippians 4:6-7)!

Pray with me: "thank you Father that your Words in the Holy Bible are Spirit. Thank you that these spiritual seeds have been given to us to plant into our hearts. Thank you that your seeds contain Spiritual power, which has the potential to make our lives more restful, easier and lighter. Please enlighten the eyes of our understanding that we may know what is the hope of your calling, and the riches of the glory of your inheritance; and what is the exceeding greatness of your power to we who believe your Word (Ephesians 1:18-19). Strengthen us to give your Words, especially your precious promises, pre-eminence in our thought life, emotions and imagination. We love you in Jesus Christ name, Amen."
